Tips for best results
Configure Ring Motion Zones
Open the Ring app, tap your camera, go to Camera Settings → Motion Settings → Camera Motion Zones, and draw a zone that covers only the area you care about — your driveway, doorstep, or garage entrance. This prevents false triggers from passing traffic or distant movement, and keeps AI analysis focused on what matters.
Missing vehicle or garbage truck alerts?
If Vision Guardian never notifies you for passing cars or garbage trucks, check the Ring app: tap your camera → gear icon → Motion Settings → Smart Alerts. If it's set to "People Only," Ring itself discards vehicle motion before it ever reaches Vision Guardian. Set it to include Vehicles so those events reach us.
Good lighting improves accuracy
AI vision works best when the subject is well-lit. For garage and outdoor cameras, consider adding a motion-activated light. Night mode footage with low contrast can reduce detection confidence.
Camera angle matters
Mount cameras so the area of interest fills most of the frame. A garage camera aimed at the door from the side detects open/closed state more reliably than one aimed at a wide driveway with the door in the corner.
